Walk is a utility app that can be used to track information when you go jogging
or on a walk. Walk provides the following information:
• Approximate distance travelled • Approximate calories spent
• Heading (degrees from due North)
• Distance to origin (point to point distance)
The calorie calculation is based on a default weight of 160 pounds. You can change
this value for the Walk app in the iPhone Settings app. (Just look for the Walk
icon.) The calorie calculations are done using approximate MET (metabolic equivalent
) values between 1 (at rest) and 18 (running 10+ mph ).
This app uses the Core Location Framework which can consume your battery resources
rapidly. Make sure to stop the app when you are not using it.
Another thing to note about the Core Location Framework is the the location is given
with an implied accuracy i.e. Even when at rest the location can vary within a specified
threshold which this app sets at 10 meters. Even though the location varies a little
while at rest, the distance reported by the app is fairly accurate while in motion.
This app has been tested on trails with distance markers and the reported distance
is consistent and fairly accurate.
For calorie calculation do not forget to set your weight in the iPhone Settings
